Quality Assurance and Assessment Regulation Division
According to the “Guide for competency based training in Sri Lanka” (issued in 2005) and the “Operational Manual for National Vocational Qualifications in Sri Lanka” (issued in 2005 and revised in 2009 and again in 2016), and the report on “Strengthening of Institutional Arrangements for NVQ Assessment Report of the Committee Appointed to Propose an Institutional Structure to Administer Competency Based Assessment in the Future Adoption for Implementation by TVEC” in 2016, TVEC as the regulatory body has the overall responsibility to implement NVQ assessment. Therefore TVEC established a new division for assessment named Quality Assurance and Assessment Regulation (Q & A) division. The main objective of this division is to maintain the quality of the assessment and major activities are as follows:
- endorsement of assessment materials,
- selecting candidates for NVQ 1 – 4 and NVQ 5 & 6 Assessor Training,
- maintaining an Assessor Database/registry ( NVQ 1-4 and NVQ 5 & 6) based on occupation and technology fields area with geographical coverage,
- coordinating assessment of students in accredited courses,
- nominating assessors for competency based assessments at NVQ levels 1-4, 5 & 6,
- coordinating final competency based assessment of NVQ Levels 5 & 6,
- assisting UNIVOTEC to review and update training programmes for assessors through feedbacks,
- ensuring consistency of final competency assessments through auditing and consistency workshops,
- attending to appeals, complaints and grievances by all stakeholders regarding assessments,
- developing and maintaining a software for transmission of assessment results and printing of certificates,
- verification of NVQ certificates when requested by employers and academic institutions in Sri Lanka and abroad,
- review and revision of Assessment Methodology periodically.
